After a long blogging hiatus im finally posting. I have successfully graduated thankfully though my science results are not up to standard but i'll work hard. Got an MSG of 1.5 so im really contented already (: Glad that everyone else graduated too and good luck to people taking re-exams!

This year has been super hectic with loads of work and stuff but we still go through it. Before that i was even wondering whether i could pass the criteria of 3.00 to JC. The 4 years in the high school side have passed so quickly, especially the Sec 3 and 4 years. And soon the class of 3A2'08 and 4A2'09 will have to part just like 1C'06 and 2C'07. Well they have to do it every 2 years =/ Took some photos with 2C'07 and it felt like we had distanced but we could still remember the memories we had as a class. I would have to say 2C'07 is more bonded than 4A2'09. 4A2'09 has many groups of people so the class is pretty separated such as the Ban Luck gang, the study group ppl, the IRC ppl, etc. but i pretty much have good relations with everyone in class, though im closer to the slackers :P The Hainan Camp also helped me make friends with people from 4A1 and I would like to thank everyone who made the trip memorable and fun (: This year's most memorable thing is most undoubtedly ban luck during recess or even in between lessons and in fact everytime we have a chance to LOL. It started small with 10 cent and 20 cent bets but the bets got bigger and bigger. And when we came back from Hainan it even went up to $2 a bet! Those were crazy times but they were fun nonetheless. 4A2 is a very fun class with lots of niao-ing too but sometimes they're abit over though. I guess if it was toned down abit the class will be much more bonded =x If only there was more time i would want to know everyone better and spend more time with the class but too bad we're all graduating soon! Thankfully there's still the 4A2 class chalet and commencement dinner to look forward to (: Let's cherish the last times we have together as a class :O

Wow long paragraph. I will do the personal dedications in another post. But for now i'll just say i miss the times when we could go to IRC everyday to pool and LAN and whatever. Miss the feeling of going to class in the morning, miss the recess times, miss the times we could go to lunch together, miss the niao-ing, miss the fun times, miss ban luck, miss everything. Maybe we can spread the spirit of ban luck to our jc classes like we did in 4A2 :P Gonna miss high school! Continue working hard in JC and strive for better results (:

Idk why but suddenly i just feel like staying in high school with all the dirty guys and talking crap. Sounds much more fun. In jc, where there are girls, there are gonna be much more actors and pretenders. Just sounds so fake =/ but it's always like that isn't it? We always have to adapt. Soon after 2 years i'll find myself missing JC and the cycle goes all over again. Its never ending. Whatever we do, where ever we go, there's always something to miss. That's life.

Enough for my class. Now's for softball. I want to thank Coach in particular for introducing softball in a totally different way. I've learnt alot from you and i think i'll need decades to master all ur techniques :O I would also like to thank B div'09 for the happy memories during training last year's December holidays. Those were good times :D But it's sad that many people are leaving softball in JC and i respect their decision but im still sad. It's okay we'll still be friends (: Thanks Dom for making trainings fun ^^ Without you trainings wouldn't be as good as they are. Glad that you're continuing softball :P And to Lihui and Gideon, good luck in whatever CCAs you are joining in JC :D Welcome back Izumi and Rui Jie! Hope you're coming back too Shi Ping :P love ya loads!

Sorry that my post is abit messy because i just type whatever comes to my mind. Not writing a composition anyway. But there's just too many people i want to thank for making my high school life memorable so i'll just thank some people.

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone in 4A2, particularly Daniel, Zhenyi, Ching Hun, Benford, Yong Zhi, Tze Yong, Jun Han, Zhao Xun, Julian for making my life in 4A2 much more enjoyable :D And also Li Ye from 4A1 ^^

Secondly, I would like to thank 2C and all the teachers who have taught me invaluable life lessons.

Thirdly, I would like to thank the girls who talk to me and listen to me rant throughout the 4 years. Really appreciate it (:

Finally bought a new computer for my bro :D Don't need to share my laptop with him anymore. Its time to change tt super old computer finally. It has a super big screen can be TV already LOL.

Only spent Sunday doing Math. Haiz still got so much homework left. Just to tell everybody so that they think they have done alot of work! I have 4 compos, 5 Math revisions and physics ws and Chemistry MCQ left. Omg so much. I need to clear alot by tmr or else i sure die. Cos i got training 3 times a week (:

Hmm trainings are getting more fun. No more chalet ppl already i guess :D Been slapping balls. Yea know it sounds wrong. But its improving i guess. Lihui got hit in the balls today though. Ouch. I got hit in the shin on the same spot twice by my bro. And he was pitching at such a close distance LOL. Causing a big swell. Too bad no more already or i can take picture upload. Okay back to posting. Holiday trainings have started and it hasn't been really productive for the B div so far cos all we are doing is training the sec 1s and 2s. Haha but quite fun luh can anyhow crap. The games we play we all bat left hand still win. Except the left handers who batted right hand.

And yesterday was DSA for the Catholic High ppl. Omg they're freaking strong LOL. Their pitcher hit over the slope. They anyhow cut the ball also outfield. Tsktsk crazy. So we got rejected by HCJC softball T.T Haha just kidding we're already in DSA :D We were totally wasting their outs. So Coach gave our team 6 outs instead of 3 =x

After that we all played soccer. We lost 2-1 cos of our ahem very good goalkeeper. And very TALL too. But nvm it was only for fun.

Haven't done any work so far except article explorer =x Have been slacking the whole week. Need to buck up already man. With trainings on Monday Wednesday and Friday it only leaves me with 4 days to do work. Somemore haven't count the days i need to go out. Haha GG. Hate all the chinese zuo wens and ying yong wens that have to be done ): I better take the time revise my sciences which suck like shit.

Oh btw pls do not patronise the new fishball noodles stall located at the Bukit Timah market because you will suffer from diarrhoea or however you spell it LOL or even vomit T.T

Long time no post! Been busy studying for IHE History exam these days. Walao everybody exams over already except us so guai lan have one exam in week 10 =.= Nvm after Monday i can slack until i decide to mug again :D Only finished studying nuclear arms, detente and cold war. Oops havent been posting recently cos got alot of tests then no time post =x Actually i think its just largely due to my laziness xD

Tests so far only hear the good news for me but bad news gonna come soon =/ Good news is IHC and Chinese A1 but those are the only 2 tests i got back. The others confirm screwed la LOL. And my math first test was B4.

Physics test on Wednesday but im just gonna slack today after the tieution :D Nope i didn't spell tt wrongly.

Anw i played street soccer for like the 2nd or 3rd time in my whole life today LOL. Anyhow kick? =x Keith MVP!!! (: So zai.

Im so tired for no reason. Must be the tieution make me think then my brain all die. Tmr i plan to start revising the notes from 4-6 pm. Do the worksheets he went through from 6-8pm then 8pm - 10pm check the answers. Im very sure it won't turn out as planned but its still good to have a plan yea? :D I will prolly skip doing the worksheets LOL!!! Since he went through anw but i'll try to resist the temptation >.<

Okay so after the entertaining post from my daughter i shall talk about my life. Damn sian lo nothing to post =x But its good that this test week is over. IHC almost made everyone crazy before the test and after the test we became crazier :D Sort of a release :P Chinese i think was okay? Her tests are not like the normal tests so i can't really say.

Let's blog about Saturday. I know its very lag but no time to blog :D

On Saturday my mother didn't wanna let me go out to watch movie but i traded with her LOL. I said i wont use msn at night for this year then she will let me go out so nvm since i dont really use msn at night nowadays. Haha so anw I met up with A Div Captain Gideon, Lihui, Jun Han, Qingyang, Edwin, Yue Quan before the chinese drama at night at Victoria Concert Hall. We met at 1pm at West Mall to eat lunch then watched the Shinjuku Incident. Hmm it was NOT BAD LA. Standard reply again =x But quite violent so those who scared of violence like Edwin should not watch it or you'll have nightmares at night.

After the movie ended at 4pm we still had loads of time because the drama starts at 8pm, so we went to bowl. Wow coincidentally we met the B div Crescent girls there. LOL the place was packed anw but we managed to get a lane. Jun Han is now Bowling Chairman because he tops the group in terms of the 2 games added together. Our scores were damn crap anw LOL. Obviously no bowling talent. The B div Crescent girls were making lotsa noise and they were like hitting homeruns everytime or something. The lane beside us the old men keep complaining HAHAHA!

We bowled until 6.50pm btw and we thought we were going to be late but we were surprisingly early by 1 or 2 minutes :D The drama was unfortunately super boring and in the end i just took our my ear phone then listen to music from my phone. Damn boring luh everyone was doing the same thing. At least better than sleeping (:

After the drama ended they left for supper then my parents fetch me home then the end.

Had jc training yesterday and had to catch for them until 7+. Walao damn sian LOL. Edmond lor sabo me ask me catch for him zzz then in the end he zao early. Poor catchers.

Week 4 sucks cos got IHC and Chinese test and both need to study T.T Fail liao la.

First day of school of term 2! So fast Yong Zhi pon school already LOL. Im surprised he actually handed in his physics file =x Haha anw our first period of the term was PE and we had NAPFA test. 5 stations only cos the field was apparently not cleared with chairs and tables still flooding the whole field. Started with sit ups. I did 57 LOL feel so extra especially when i didn't reach 60 zomg. Then sit and reach 41cm. Pull ups i did 9 just to follow everyone. Shuttle run 9.9 seconds (nice number :D) then standing broad jump i did 250cm. Hmm quite okay la everything improved except sit ups hahaha. So its 4As and 1C (:

Then had the usually boring chinese lesson then physics then IHE teacher nvr come :D After that went for break and played basketball with some jc ppl then had Math and ended at 1.20.

After school Daniel and 5 others wanted to go Pizza Hut and eat so we followed. Omg it was super funny. When we were ordering Justin noticed got one badge that meant something like if the waitress doesn't smile then got free pizza. Then he go ask if it is true. So after that we keep asking her not to smile. Of course she keep smiling luh smile until mouth gonna cramp hahahaha. But nvm there were other waitresses but then she told all the other waitresses to smile when they got to our table =.= The funny part is when the waitress go serve the food all 7 of us looked at her then she forced one super fake smile HAHAHA. Wth we laugh like crazy. Almost spill out my pepsi >.< The next waitress came then she forgot to smile. Then Kok Leong said,"Nvm la 10 more seconds". WALAO THIS WAITRESS SMILE EVEN MORE FORCEFULLY THAN THE FIRST. LOL wth then we laugh like shit again. After that all the waitresses didn't dare to come near our table i think :D We pwn man. Andy said Pizza Hut next time ban Hwa Chong people liao cos they too smart then outsmart them. I seriously think we're the first to observe that small badge and make them so nervous over it :D

Oh anw i got a phone scam today saying I won some free photo shoot worth 599 bucks LOL. Wth so stupid then i immediately hang up. Aww i didn't play with him but nvm. I got his number :O What a stupid scammer. Later i report him to police he GG. But i shall let him off (: Peicai won Hwa Chong C div 8-6 anw. Haha not bad luh considering how slack they are =x

Yesterday was Gala Dinner. Happy belated birthday to Hwa Chong :D Anw the food was quite crap so i shan't talk about it. Not filling at all!!! =x Haha anw nobody paid any attention to the ones on stage. I bet they were like WTH!!! But of course nobody cared...not even when the minister was speaking LOL. Everyone was like WHERE'S THE FOOD?

So anw the most fun part was the photo taking and the toilet trip. I don't have the photos with me cos they're all with others. The toilet trip was fun cos it was dark and the atmosphere was nice :D Dominic started switching off the lights when we were in the toilet hahaha. After that we decided to scare Marcel and hide and wait for him to appear then we saw him running quickly like he very scared HAHA. But of course he denied so we shall give him the benefit of doubt (:

The dinner ended at around 10.45 then the buses were super crowded. Luckily 852 was not crowded. Love 852 :P

Today me and my bro went to Ngee An Poly to play basketball again. Then we joined some ppl to play match. There was this super tall guy like 1.9m. Crazy shit. Can't even block him. Haha anw my team were losing 10-6 before i scored 3 in a row to make it 10-9 then my team mate scored to make it 10-10 then i scored the winning one. LOL exciting. The tall guy was like WTH and damn sore loser =x But he's like 40 years old or something and he had his ego at stake la so cannot blame him :D

Oh man sch is starting tmr. Who agrees with me that we should have more time to slack? (: I haven't even touched my homework!!! =x

Sabbatical week! I was in Natural Product Chemistry with Jun Han, Lihui, Clarence, Bertrand, John and CHONG YEE. Haha it was erm quite boring actually but the instructor quite nice la (: Didn't really learn anything cos we were just slacking all the way LOL. The NUH trip was totally pointless and a waste of time (i felt) and i reflected it in the feedback.

We stayed back for basketball for tuesday to thursday. Improved again :D But everytime sabbatical week improve then later sure deprove again =/

Went for training after lunch today. Didn't really do anything. Super slack. Didn't even sweat one tenth of the usual amount i sweat during training LOL. Omg man trainings now are boringgggg ): Nvm luh shall just wait for C div competition to end.

Ah sorry for not updating this dying blog LOL. I shall post a longer one this time. Well hope it can be long! Anw we beat Catholic High 5-4 but we're out of the nationals. Stupid reason. They counted the number of runs conceded. I shall do a review on the scores.

This is compared to some teams which i do not want to say who either tyco AND/or like to play things in their favour. So what if you get into the top 4? Will you even be happy EVEN IF you win the championship? I shan't say any more (:

However i can safely say that Hwa Chong B Div 2009 is a champion team, one of the top teams. Nobody can deny that. Winning is not everything though. Its the experience when we stuck together as a team and put up a fight against the strong teams in Singapore, the experience when we trained hard together in the holidays. All those can never be replaced with just a medal. For acknowledgements can go Dominic's blog ;D

Anw today we went to watch the finals of Crescent vs Tanjong Katong. Crescent lost 10-6 but good game (: we'll get them next time :D

Okay its been a long time since i blogged but anw Chinese New Year for me and everyone else was just visiting and hearing relatives say the same thing every year as if they weren't tired of it. But at least they give hong bao la LOL!!! I dont really care about the hong bao anw since its all going to the bank =/ no cold hard cash for me to spend.

Hmm so the comps have started. Today was against Regent Secondary and we won 23-2. Quite a good start :D But i tore my hamstring zomgosh. Anw these few days have been training. Heard the teams are strong this year :O But nvm we must win something!!! And how can sec 5 players play for B div tsk. Damn cheat la. They have much more experience but nvm we're going in as the underdogs (: Our group for prelims is like warm up so the real game starts after that.

Okay yay im posting again. So yesterday we went to celebrate Coach's birthday. Maybe u read it a thousand and one times already but im still gonna say what we did yeserday HAHA. I met Linqi, Charlotte, Lihui and Dominic at Plaza Sing to buy presents for Coach. Hmm we bought kinda crap stuff LOL. Anw the air freshener we bought for the car wasn't even meant for the car ._. Lihui successfully committed suicide by saying he'll treat something cos he was feeling rich in that short idk how many minutes (: He said Cathay got bowling then he treat us but turns out DONT HAVE. But nvm we ate lunch there and wrapped presents then took 190 back to Bukit Panjang Plaza. Oh btw i forgot to say when we went in the morning Charlotte finished her breakfast!!! Remarkable eh? :P

At Bukit Panjang Plaza Coach was trying to be mysterious then keep saying he cannot confirm if he can go LOL. But Dominic and Shiping found him in the toilet HAHAHA. So funny. So we sang the birthday song loudly and saw his reaction when he received the nice giftbox that me Charlotte and Linqi wrapped :D We got a Sex King of the Road sign which was probably his favourite (: After that he brought us to Sembawang and treated 14 of us to dinner. Eat until very full cos i was challenging the Dragonite to see who eat more LOL. Eh i was eating for my table cos my table had many unclean plates of food so i just finish all. Aiya he own me lor obviously hahaha. But i went home and still had to eat the dinner my mum cooked for me. Ah well. But it was a very fun day yesterday (: Then i went home with Shiping!

But nvm we had fun :D But today is gonna be the last time we're ever gonna see the Crescent girls again. Yea so sad. On Friday, the Crescent girls came to train with us so we went to eat lunch with them after morning training. Haha nvr really talk to them. Wait until Lihui come back LOL. Talking about today i of course thrashed Edmond again. He wanted a 1 on 1 rematch to get thrashed and it was exciting =P I jumped to the lead with 3 hook shots and 1 three point to make it 5-0. We were playing to 7 points. So of course i relaxed then anyhow shoot 3 pointers LOL. Edmond scored 3 to catch up 5-3 so i decided not to give chance already. I scored another hook shot to make it 6-3 then i slacked again. Finally i did a lay-up to win HAHA. So i won 7-3 ^^ aiya Edmond train another 10 years la =x Talking about blocks i made many nice blocks today ;D I say you also dont believe u must see it to believe it.

Afternoon training was just pitching for the sec 1s to hit while i fielded as shortstop. Valentino dislocated or sprained his wrist idk. Omg he's the C div shortstop so if he doesn't recover it'll be really really bad. Hmm thats why you shouldn't anyhow slide =/ Out then out lor.

At 4pm i went to the JC side to catch for a friendly game against some Japanese school. Haha i think we got thrashed =x Dunno the exact score though. So i jump here jump there and stopped all the balls LOL. Some pretty wild ones =/ I only got to bat once then i hit a high line drive to outfield. Pretty nice hit but it was caught out T.T So sian. Anw im playing against ppl 17 or 18 years old so quite good experience. Should ask them give chance to Sec 3 XD

When i went home the JC ppl were nice and all said bye and thank you to me (: Okay so i went home later at 7.30pm.

Okay i shall post now :D Tuesday the softballers went weights training and suddenly we decided to go to watch movie at Bishan Junction 8 (: very long since i last caught a movie. So anyway Marcel saw the Junction 8 sign and asked WHERE'S THE 8? What a clever boy. So much for his msg of 1.00 la LOL! We watched Quantum of Solace which was okay except for its abrupt ending and then helped Shi Ping look for bag which we bought on Wednesday. Yesterday's weather in the afternoon was horrible. Couldn't play game with all the lightning =/ the rain continued until next day!!! CRAZY WEATHER =.= Hope tmr doesn't rain. Marcel was being clever again by asking what's a crumpler. Edmond they all pointed to a crumpler and Marcel actually searched the bag and asked again WHERE GOT CRUMPLER? ZOMGGGGGGGG WHAT THE HELL LOL! What a trademark of Marcel Wong Liang Kun. Okay ego time. I REGAINED MY FORM. Well only cause Coach was coaching me xD Anw i hope my form continues. Dominic, Charles, Yizhang and me were hitting Marcel's balls like siao la. Started with Charles line drive to right field then i hit one homerun (first homerun of this hols :O) then Yizhang then Dominic hit one super nice linedrive that could have been a homerun if he had run faster. The 3 outs of our inning were contributed byyyyyy SHIPINGGGGG!!! ;D But nvm la if he nvr out we maybe cannot stop hitting LOL =x

But the main thing about this training is not about homeruns. Its just a bonus (: The most important thing is being SMOOTH! Okay i gotta get this in my THICK SKULL.

Nearing 300 posts. These days too tired to post cos of training T.T anw EOYA was paintball and it was freaking hot. We played bball at the court beside though i dunno where the ball came from :O i heard they picked it up LOL! Anw when it was our turn we only got 3 ppl. Then i anyhow shoot until i remembered the objective of the game which was to shoot the cone and get the flag =.= So i shoot 2 times then the cone drop liao. Zun right? ;D Ppl shoot 50 times also nvr get. So i shoot liao then run back then win. The other team got 4 ppl! Tmr going Singapore Discovery Centre. Obviously everybody go there to slack =/

Today's training was good! Mostly fielding for me though. The others all bat. I was shortstop :D fun! Coach says im gonna be shortstop cos i can cover big space (: The JC girl who came thought i was sec 4 LOL! Too pro liao =x

Okay i've been very lazy to post =/ Anw im feeling super tired after just 3 days into the week.

Monday i had softball training. Tuesday i went Crescent Girls to help them with their training with Coach. Okay la i noe alot of ppl want to noe what happened LOL! But nothing really happened there. Lihui was abit shy there then didn't dare to talk to them HAHAHA! So i did all the tossing and explaining of stuff. Yes i noe my communication skills very pro :D Anw they are biggggg. I tink bigger than alot of the Hwachong softballers =x BUT WE GOT TECHNIQUE YEA? ;D Nothing funny happened except for some catfight xD One girl throw too fast then the other girl tio hit in the head then the senior come and scold the girl who throw too fast. Lihui didn't dare say anything =x But he got help pick ball la =P We go there pick ball only T.T

Today was even more tiring. After 2 days of sports. I woke up in the morning with muscle ache everywhere. Then today got Aphelion vs ProEd in basketball. Walao i run everywhere go fight with the freaking tall china guys. I still block them leh. Then in the end kena injured everywhere. I tink i sprained my ankle again or something. They too tall la. In the end lose 38-63 zzz. I tink i did mostly the defensive work or else they score like 80 or 90+ points lol. I scored 6 points only cos the guy in my team keep solo-ing =/ Tmr against Ortus. Got feeling tio thrashed again seeing that my muscles are all on the verge of cramping thanks to the frog jumps and throwing during training. My back feels tight ): Tmr die liaooooo. Should play Ortus first la then not so tiring. Now i on the verge of dying.

Hmm got back sciences and IHC and Math papers today. My Chemistry got 62 while my Physics got 65 =/ Both are B4 anw after converting to overall ZZZ! Damn noob right T.T Well but after those 2 i knew IHC and Math were gonna save me but i was in for more =P My IHC got highest in class! Got 25/30 (: I help Singapore win PRCs!!! =x Then my Math got 75/100 which was second highest in class. Well not including those who were exempted =.= But second still not bad luh ;D And i got my A1!!! So cool. Chan SH and Tong BY are pro teachers (: HAHA SIEW TEACH ME I LAST IN CLASS >(

So today i went to Plaza Singapura to watch House Bunny with lotsa ppl. Hmm let me try to name. Daniel, Jun Han, Andy, Chee Suan, Yongzhi, Brandon, Benford, Chong Yee! Dont tink i missed anyone out >.< Anw it was kinda lame due to some reasons which i will not say ;D Ask me online if you want! So after running here and there and some money problems WE FINALLY WATCHED THE MOVIE. Anw thank you Benford and Daniel for treating me to the movie ^^

K we expected a lame movie so we weren't disappointed cos it was very lame xD In a funny way though. Super funny. There was a scene like this in the opening:

Uh huh then the police opened the door which creaked loudly and made all the dogs bark LOL. Kinda funny but not the funny part yet. The policeman asked her to take a breathalyser test and blow into the thing to test for alcoholic content. THEN THE STUPID BUNNY SQUATTED DOWN AS IF SHE WANTED TO DO A BLOWJOB! HAHAHA zomgosh so sick. Only those who are sick can get it =P

Haha im finally back after a long non-blogging streak. EOYs are ALMOST over with only Chinese Paper 2 but who cares =P Chinese Paper 2 dont nid mug one. So anw EOYs were quite good. Didn't screw anything up TOO badly but i dunno. Must see the results first >.< Ended with math which i thought would kill but it turned out to be easier than expected. Everyone was expecting a killer xD

Haha yesterday i was damn sian =x But aiya okay la my essay passed and i can proceed to present (: NISEEEEE.

Today was damn slack LOL. We effectively only had 3 periods. Double chem and 1 period of IHC. The rest were either com lab lessons for slacking or absent teachers xD Paul Ho go pon lesson dunno go where la. Walao cannot stand this slacker liao =/

Training was more fun ^^ But i was the only guy there who was in upper sec =.= Luckily im popular with my juniors too LOL! =x We were practising the punch. Nah not punch with hand punch with bat. Increases percentage of contact ;D After that my hits were super clean! Haha so were the others ^^ Then tried the punch then full swing. Started hitting cleanly + with power! Wa tt one damn nice make me hit far far =P Jun Yu came for high school training then hit so far make me run until dieeeeee. Super tiring.

Then coach wanted to test our reaction how fast so kip hitting balls at us to stop at close range. Those that went past the person must pick. HAHA so funny =x But being a catcher i stopped every ball luh cos i not scared to ball le. Good thing about being catcher (:

Ahh end of sabbatical week! Sad T.T It has been damn slack and super fun playing basketball with Gideon they all for a change instead of playing with my class. And playing with them made me improve alot more than when i played with my class. Not saying my class noob or anything...just their playing method doesn't make me improve cos they too rough =/ At least now my shooting accuracy go up by alot and dribbling also improve maybe abit. Rebounding improve like siao liao LOL. Cos of my injured ankle i have been able to learn to catch the timing to jump and get the rebound instead of relying just on my jump height. Cool!!! Actually everyone's shooting accuracy improved also especially Jun Han xD Chop all the way.

Problems faced in the 1950s:

Land constraints
Housing Shortage
Rapid Population Growth due to baby boom and immigration
Poor housing conditions
Poor sanitation
Lack of electricity and piped water
Slums and squatters

Solving the Housing Crisis:

HDB was set up to resolve the housing shortage in Singapore and improve housing conditions. HDB did that through five year plans. The first five year plan was to build as many houses as quickly and as cheaply as possible. 150 000 units of flats had to be built in 10 years to clear the slums and squatters and relieve overcrowding. Housing estates were built within 8km of the city centre. Some landowners were reluctant to give up their land and thus the HDB used the Land Acquisition Act which enabled them to acquire the land from the landowners and compensate them. 50 000 units of flats were built in the first five years, controlling the housing shortage.

Maximizing Land Use:

HDB built high-rise, high-density flats to maximize land use, e.g. Tanglin Halt and Queenstown. These blocks could go up to 25 stories and had their own shops and markets. Each flat had its own kitchens and toilets which was much better than the slums which had shared facilities. These flats were mainly rented.

Self-contained towns:

Towns were built away from the city centre to relieve congestion in the city centre. This towns were independent from the city centre and had their own shopping centres, bus terminals, schools and industrial estates to provide people with jobs. They also had better design and facilities.

Home Ownership Scheme:

Government encouraged home ownership right from the start. It gave people a greater sense of belonging, sense of pride and loyalty to the country. It was also a form of financial security. People who rented flats could buy the same flats at a discount, motivating people to work harder and get a stake in the country. The government helped by allowing citizens to utilise CPF for pay for flats or pay for the flats with monthly installments over a period of 5-10 years.

Social Cohesion:

Different racial groups settled in the same estate or block and shared common facilities with each other, thus is was very important for people of different races to live together in harmony. There were community centers to serve as meeting places for neighbours and for activities to bond people together. The government noticed that there was a higher proportion of racial groups in certain places and thus, they limited the proportion of races in a every block and estate so that different races reside in the same block of flats. Activities were organized to strengthen bonds and for people to interact and learn how to tolerate and understand each other.

Housing for middle income group:

Due to the thriving economy, standards of living went up and so did property prices. Thus, the middle income groups could not afford private homes while at the same time, they exceeded the maximum income required to own HDB flats. They were the 'sandwiched' class. HDB responded by raising the maximum income for home ownership several times. Finally, the HUDC built flats for the middle income group. They had designs and locations comparable to private houses and cost cheaper than private houses. Executive Condominiums were also built to satisfy the desire of middle income groups who have the desire to own private homes but cannot afford to. These flats are built near HDB estates and have better designs and finishes. They also have facilities such as swimming pools and tennis courts and are privatized after 5 years.

Sense of Belonging - Precinct Concept:

It is the basic planning unit of the town. A precinct consists of 4 to 8 blocks and each precinct has a central place and a few basic facilities. They help enhance the sense of belonging to homes and helps build community spirit. RCs organize activities that involve the precinct like mass cleaning up days. RCs are also involved in home matters, environmental matters and maintaining security.

Meeting needs of single citizens:

Increasing number of single citizens wanted their own homes but were neither eligible for HDB flats nor could they afford private houses. The HDB allowed those who were at least 35 to buy resale flats and introduced the CPF Housing Grant to help them buy flats.

Meeting needs of senior citizens:

Studio apartments were introduced. These apartments have non-slip floorings and had pull-cords linked to the block's alarm system. They facilitate mobility and independent learning. They are also close the activity centres for social interaction, shops and facilities. They also have handrails, lifts that stop at every floor, easier to open windows and pedestal toilets.

Renewing of older estates:

75% of the estate or block must agree to this upgrading works which include upgrading of old towns, improving of lift lobby, additional linkways, covered shelters, children's playground, BBQ pits, new balcony or utility rooms and bird viewing corners. The costs will be shared between the government and flat owners.

Ahh mugging for IHC test sucks. Missed Friday so slack =P Went for concert after a slack day of school. Oh and HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO MICHELLE TAY! (: LOL it was on Friday but i couldn't use com on Friday >.< So anw went to meet Jun Han at JEC there then take MRT to City Hall. Ate dinner and was still early. So slack around then walk to Esplanade. Wa very windy and alot of buildings xD Dunno how to describe u go see yourself...very nice (:

Ended up like 50 minutes early? Then sat outside for 50 minutes with nothing to do >.< Lol looking at people walk around very fun. Finally could go in. And Singaporeans are damn zai at watching concerts. Keep wolf whistling and clapping at everything. Either that or using handphones to shine at wall cos the lights all off ma. LOL and talking and laughing at every little thing. Pro LOL! But overall the concert was quite nice luh :D Ohh cool i didn't say NOT BAD LA =x

Hmm start with whether senior citizens are liability or asset to our country =P

Liability:

Greater demand for healthcare services and social services. Although not all senior citizens will fall ill, there are certain age-related health problems such as loss of hearing and failing eyesight. Thus more resources will have to be used to set up healthcare centres for the aged, reducing resources for further investments and economic ventures.
Singapore will have to spend more of its financial resources to set up community based services such as day care centres and nursing homes to take care of the aged. Befriender services and social services will also be needed. In other words, a large pool of trained welfare staff are needed to take care of senior citizens such as nurses and volunteers.
With more senior citizens, there will be more stress on the working population to support the old. Thus, the working population must pay more taxes to provide the facilities and services need for the aged. In future, say 2030, 2.2 adults will be needed to take care of one aged person. The government would also need to use more of its revenue to take care of senior citizens, and part of the revenue is from taxes. With fewer babies, there would be fewer young people to support the aged and thus they will have to be taxed more heavily just to provide the facilities and services need for senior citizens.

Asset:

With more healthy and better educated senior citizens in the country, it would mean a larger pool of people with valuable skills, knowledge, work experience and talent. Senior citizens can also help to take care of their grandchildren, making themself useful by contributing to the family. They can also act as mentors to the younger generation or become advisors in government organizations and private companies. In this way, they can make themselves useful and contribute to the society.
Healthy senior citizens can still contribute to the society. The government has recognized their importance in the society and increased the retirement age from 60 to 62.
Senior citizens can also engage in the 'back to work' program which can help them find suitable jobs and provide them with the necessary training.
Senior citizens can help promote the growth of some manufacturing and service industries. With more senior citizens, demand for goods and services for them will go up, expanding the market for these goods and services.

Government support:
The Government can prepare for an aging population by policies implemented to help take care of the elderly. The government has a tribunal for maintenance of parents. Parents can get the court's help in seeking financial support from their children who are capable of supporting them but are not doing so. This applies to senior citizens who are incapable of supporting themselves and are above the age of 60. There is also the tax relief scheme which offers tax reductions to children who are taking care of the elderly in the family or contributing to their own or their elderly dependents' CPF retirement accounts. The Government also provides public housing schemes for first time buyers of government flats and housing grants if they are buying a flat in the area where their parents live.There is also 3 accounts in the CPF for all employees. The Special Account is for retirement, emergency and investment. The Medisave Account is used for paying for medical bills and the Retirement Account is for when you retire. Children should have the moral responsibility to care for their parents and the community should also respect and show care for the senior citizens. The 'many helping hands' approach is Singapore's way of preparing for an aging population. The Government believes this approach is better than increasing taxes and this will reduce over-dependence on the Government to look after the people. When this responsibility of taking care of the senior citizens is shared, the Government will be less burdened and the resources saved can be used for other needs of the country.

Family Care:
Families should show care and concern for the aged and show respect to them. They must make the aged feel wanted and ask for their opinions, giving them a part to play in the family so that they do not feel left out and useless. They also need to be patients with the aged.

Community Help:
The community also has an important part to play in preparing the country for an ageing population. The community can give social and emotional support and provide healthcare and social services for the elderly. Voluntary welfare organizations like the Home Nursing Foundation involve members of the community like housewives and school children to look after the needs of the elderly. They also offer free health checks and recreational activities for senior citizens.

Promoting Population Growth from 1980s: Why?

Promoting Population Growth after the 1980s: How?
The Graduate Mother's Scheme was started in 1984. It encouraged graduate couples to marry and have children. However it was scraped after one year in 1985 because many people felt it was unfair and population policies built on the belief that graduates had better babies were very controversial. Another scheme was the 'Three or More If You Can Afford It' in 1987. It aimed to bring Singapore's birth rate back to the replacement level of 2.1 but was very careful about it and made sure couples could afford it before having a third child. This was due to the economic recession in 1985 which led to may people getting retrenched and many MNCs pulling out their investments in Singapore. This scheme allowed people to use Medisave to pay for delivery charges. However, the Government overlooked the higher standards of living and the high costs of bringing up a baby, e.g. education. Also, due to the increasing cost of medical care, Medisave accounts were drained usually in 1 or 2 hospitalizations. Besides those schemes, there were equalised benefits which allowed mothers to make medical claims for their children, something that only fathers were allowed to do last time. The maternity leave was also extended from 8 weeks to 12 weeks. There is also the 5 day work week for the civil service to allow for better work-life balance and tax relief of up to $3000 if grandparents were helping to take care of children.

Yo! Yesterday we had half day! 11.20 release but still had EP3. Smart Dr Hon's suggestion =.= So spent 11.20 - 1.30 playing basketball before going for softball. Felt damn sian =/ So the sian-ness turned to frustration then i go spam pull up bar with one hand and did alot LOL! I nvr knew i could do one hand pull-ups. Just means i got stronger :D

Then Mr Toh came ask us clear the Track Room and did some sai kang. Got Singapore Schools jacket. Lol all of us had in fact ^^ Free siol. Li Hui was busy high-ing with a trophy Mr Toh gave to him LOL! Damn funny. AND EDDY CAME TRAINING FINALLY!!! ;D

Anw yesterday i broke my specs when i was playing basketball!!! D: Then IHC lesson kena punished stand up cos very wet LOL! But lucky my degree not very high so still can see luh. My Chemistry Test got 21/40. B4!!! Zzz my chemistry is stuck at tt level. Cant go any higher T.T Physics test and math test probably given out next week. Math sure fail one. Went to play basketball at Ngee An Poly today. Haha played match with 2 foreign adults. Dunno who la me and one vs my bro and another one. Lol we won but the guy in my team like dunno how to do anything. I scored like 90% of the points. My bro was very accurate haha! Like suddenly! Made one super nice block. My bro shoot already then i jump to the board there and hit it away. NISEEEEE. NBA liao LOL! xD But those ppl damn tall very hard to block!

After that went to play with a family cos we lent them the ball. Okay they just took the ball but w/e la haha. Me and my bro vs their father and his son(P3). LOL completely owned tt match. P3 only ma. But tt father damn funny...when i shooting then he ask,"Ur brother ar?" Then i dao awhile then shoot then CHOP then say,"Yea" LOL own him flat =x Distract me sia. After tt alot of chop. Is this some laughter controlling session or something? Then he got kind of pissed and people were still laughing and he gave demerit points. Abusing power..... He scold people also so g**. Training i could see Coach very bueh song about the loss. He said the team lacked the aggression or rather the testis LOL! Nice jokes la. But then Coach trained our aggression by asking us to swing aggressively at every ball. Haha i use too much strength on my hands hit like shit. And my grip too loose. Or else should be able to hit =P Coach showed his imba batting and his footwork. Haha nise he taught me cos i was the catcher and closest to him xD Yay not teaching anyone else. Oops jk (:
